antique VIOLIN CASE

The case is made of wood with green velvet inside and a thin leather alligator hide, rusty hinges, duck tape and the side wood was all coming out, it was pretty shot.

I have done SEVERAL GUITAR cases and was commission once to do a violin case, my husband Mike from Patriot Log Home Builders wanted to do this very old wood violin case that he has held on to for many years.

It was his idea to use the music sheets. I play classic piano and have allot of sheet music, we choose a single piece from my BACH book. Mike had the cleaver idea to burn the edges, which he did. As you can see we are still in the design phase. My husband patiently cleaned and repaired the case before I began its treatment. He is between jobs right now and at times we like to work together.

This project has sat for quite a while as since then , I decided it was time to finish up my Groovy 1960s inspired guitar case, which I did just yesterday in fact. It was one night over a few beers with my husband, sitting in my studio when it hit me that I had to take my suitcases to a new level.

I wanted to cut a whole in them and my husband right then and there got out his jug saw and did it for me. See this process here.

The excitement of these projects have over shadowed the violin case. This is how I often work however, several projects going on at one time. As drying time and other factors play in it enables me to keep busy for hours at a time, which is how I like to work. Yesterday I started a 9:00 A. M. and finished up around 8:00 in the evening, I was bushed dead tried but I finished my self portrait and it is my favorite suitcase to date.

Today , Saturday afternoon I will spend most of the day as well in my studio. My oldest daughter, after seeing what I did for my 15 year old daughter on her birthday ,

the face-lift of the dresser wants me to make her an end table for her collage dorm, so I might start that today. She wants it in similar papers and thankfully I still have some left over.

MY FRIEND ALOONA professional photo which is in part my inspiration for my next exciting project.

This is the hard shell case before I got my bedazzlement hands on it. Ugg!

This is my first attempt at a new dimension in my work , My carpenter husband , of
Patriot Log Home Builders, is very helpful in some of my projects. He retrieved his handy jig saw and cut the opening for me.

I have a plan , which I will put in redone stripper shoes and trendy fashion images. In fact , a friend of mine posted as her profile picture this professional image which I have permission to use and plan to use on this case.

It is ready to go, I am in the process of choosing images. Last night I worked on the dancer, or stripper shoes that I plan to put in the belly of the case.

The pair of shoes that you see, are a left over from my partner who deserted me at the height of my downtown business. She ran off with man, gave me no notice and left me high and dry with two businesses to run without any notice. She is a x dancer, stripper. It was very hard for me to paint these shoes which were originally patent leather white as they really smelled of stink! I painted them blue , yes for the color it implies. I have been thinking that I would like to write the story behind these shoes!

I first painted with layers of blues, crimson red on the base with a large holographic glitter combination , the blue has a fairy sparkle dust and the inside are painted with complementary orange. They are not finished yet. Stage one.

work in progress-Groovy guitar case

GROOVY FLOWER POWER
GUITAR CASE

REMINISCENT OF THE MAKE
♥LOVE♥
NOT W A R
of the 1960'S
THE PROCESS~

painting in the papers takes allot of time but is essential to bring the work together, to make it cohesive and finished off.

The rusty hinges will be addressed with paint and glitter

I painted the bright lime green flower trim with a touch of pink , as I thought it was too much and wished to bring in more elements of pink.

Next comes after varnish the most fun part for me, adding the bedazzlement , beads, gems, jewels, trims , lace, patches, etc and lots of flowers for this hippy inspired guitar case. Cant you just hear the melodic cry's of Joan Biaz or my u all time favorite Joni Mitchell?

Adding the trim is the part that I enjoy the very most. After I have applied about three coats of water based varnish then the real fun begins.

Adding this plastic flower beaded trim with a center contrasting gem really gave it that flower power look I was searching for
A few more of the same trim only in yellow with other plastic gems are added to glitz it up

This is the top cover close up after beads , lace, flowers etc have been added with secure glue.

I have enjoyed working on guitar cases, most of mine have sold rather quickly, I recently purchase 2 used black cases and am working to make this one look as Hippy and groovy as I can. Granted it has a feminine touch to it. The images are from an old calendar that featured 1960s rock band covers. Hand made papers and optic art papers are what AI am primary using.

At present I have 3 days in this. It is far more time consuming than one would think. there is alot of square footage to cover. I paint in all my papers and in this case I choice to nearly paint entirely all the black and white papers that I used in bright multi color nearly psychedelic tones.

As you can see the inside clearly needed a revamping. It is quite worn. It is good to note that after my treatment of these used cases, they become much more durable and will last for a good amount of time, more so left untreated. Not only does the paper give the flimsy case more stability , so does the glue based mod podge and especially the water based varnish.

My friend Casper loves to look on when I am in my studio. Here I am doing the inside.

I will most likely use a whole bottle of MOD PODGE on this project. These are arcylic colors that I used

This is the side finished up , I added funky mulit color yarn around the handel

HERE SHE IS FINISHED OFF IN THE INSIDE I ADDED PAPERS AND spent allot of time hand coloring them with acrylic paints. The top inside cover I applied a vintage paisley burst that I copied from an 1960s silk scarf and added red fine glitter with a thin top coat of water based varnish.

The back which does not have any trim , gems or patches on it so it can be stored safely lying on its back.
